“Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out.”

I came across that quote from The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation while reading one evening and was struck by how perfectly it gives voice to what lies at the heart of our work at Western States.

People who participate in a clinical trial have no idea how far reaching their generosity is.  As they derive benefit from the care they receive while on study, their participation also contributes to a body of research that will bring alternatives and hope to many others struggling in the great battle that is cancer.  Those brave study participants rarely see the results of their courageous choices, making them true acts of generosity.

Similarly, when someone makes a donation to an organization, even if they restrict it to a specific program or activity, they rarely see the full impact of their gift.  Once again, real generosity.

As we enter the season of giving, I encourage all of our community members to remember our patients who give without constraint and our medical providers who work long and intense schedules to bring multiple treatment options to those patients.
