Dear Friends of Western States Cancer Research NCORP,

As an NCORP, (The NCI Community Oncology Research Program (NCORP) we are an affiliate of the NCI.  The NCORP is a national NCI-supported network that brings cancer clinical trials and care delivery studies to people in their communities.

Being an NCORP allows us to offer unique opportunities to not only bring clinical trials in community settings but also to conduct care delivery research (CCDR) where the majority of cancer patients receive their treatment.

Cancer Care Delivery Research (CCDR) is a multidisciplinary science that seeks to improve clinical outcomes and patient well-being by intervening on patient, clinician, and organizational factors that influence care delivery.

Integrating care delivery research within the NCORP network provides the ability to collect primary data and initiate interventions; look across a mix of practice models and heterogeneous populations and follow patients from time of diagnosis through treatment and survivorship.

The goal of CCDR in NCORP is to generate evidence that can be used to improve clinical practice, particularly through the evaluation of pragmatic interventions focused on clinicians, staff, and/or practices.  In other words, CCDR studies focus on the how cancer affects patients and their caregivers/ families, rather than studying the cancer itself. Those studies look at issues such as financial toxicity; emotional enhancements to support patients on their cancer journeys; and identification of structural, systemic, and psychosocial barriers to adherence to studies, to name a few.

We, at Western States, are committed to bringing patients the broadest array of available options when patients receive a cancer diagnosis, and we are proud to be able to bring NCI trials that support them and their families with a full spectrum of cancer care.
