June 2025
What it’s like to be a CEO.
Dear Friends,
As you all know, federal funding for clinical research has been cut across all many research areas. We received word in July from NCORP leadership in Washington that our funding is being cut and our site is being closed, effective July 31st, 2026. Obviously, this was devasting news and very anxiety provoking for our team.
That being said, our Board has given us permission to pivot to become a Site Management Organization (SMO) running industry (pharmaceutical) studies in other therapeutic areas in addition to oncology, e.g., dermatology, behavioral health, urology. We have been managing melanoma industry studies for the past four years, and our team is well-tooled to make this larger pivot. for We will function very similarly to the way we have been: matching physicians with studies and helping them find eligible patients. We are currently engaged in finding studies and new sites.
Because we are expanding our study portfolio to include other types of therapeutic areas, we have had to take on a DBA – Altitude Clinical Research.
We remain committed to our mission of bringing clinical trials to local communities, and our goal is to find small, stand-alone clinics to support. Many of those types of sites don’t do research because they fear the regulatory and compliance aspects of conducting a clinical trial.
While the news from Washington was difficult, we are excited to be able to expand our study portfolio into other therapeutic areas and to work with new sites and clinicians. Patients who are in need deserve access to the broadest array of options available.
We couldn’t have done our good work for the past 40 years without the generosity of people like you in our community Now, more than ever we need your support. Colorado Gives Day is December 8th, but giving starts today! Please consider making a gift by going to our donation page at https://www.coloradogives.org/organization/westernstatesncorp.
From November 1 through December 9, every donation you make is boosted by a $1M+ Incentive Fund, thanks to Colorado Gives Foundation and FirstBank. The more we raise, the bigger our share.
As we enter into the season of giving, we are grateful for the impact our organization has made in the community and for the generosity of everyone who has supported us with their time, talent and treasure. As I enter into my tenth year with our organization, I continue to be thankful for our engaged Board and my courageous, competent colleagues.
Wishing you and yours a bountiful and healthy Thanksgiving.
Gratefully,
Lisa Switzer, M.A.
CEO/Executive Director
PS: Last year, we raised almost $30,000. Let’s make this year even bigger – to help us raise $50,000.
